Darren S. Nance currently serves as Deputy Chief of Party for IFES in Sudan and was formerly Chief of Party for IFES in Nepal, providing technical assistance to the Election Commission of Nepal. Nance brings over 14 years experience in election administration, management and electoral observation, logistical preparation, security operations and high profile, major event coordination and democratic development and project organization to Nepal. He specializes in political party training, civic participation programs, and voter education.

Nance previously served as President Jimmy Carter’s Representative and Director of The Carter Center’s International Election Observation Mission to Nepal during Nepal’s Constituent Assembly electoral process. Prior to his service in Nepal, Nance served as Chief of Staff of the United Nations International Electoral Assistance Team to the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq where he also served as Acting Chief of Party for the IFES contribution to the UN mission. Nance had been actively involved in Iraq’s Electoral Administration creation and election preparations since 2003. From 2000-2003, Nance served as Chief of Staff and Executive Officer under the United Nations Mission in Kosovo Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (UNMIK/OSCE) Department of Election Operations. Nance also worked in various capacities with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI).

Nance has observed over 15 electoral processes on four continents with the OSCE, NDI, OAS and The Carter Center. He has traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and South America. Nance is fluent in Spanish and English and holds degrees in Intercultural Communication from the University of Oklahoma and in Spanish Literature from La Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico.
