    Morocco: In Focus

    Following the input received from women’s advocates in the Indicator Working Group Meeting held in Beirut, Lebanon in May 2009 and the subsequent NGO workshop held in Rabat also in May 2009, IFES and its partner organization, the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), finalized the Morocco questionnaire. IFES contracted the local survey firm LMS-CSA to carry out the survey. LMS concluded field work in Morocco in January 2010, marking the successful completion of the second survey for the SWMENA project.

    Status of Women in the Middle East and North Africa

    IFES and the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR) have united their years of experience in research and capacity building to enhance the status of women in the Middle East and North Africa. Through comparative and country‐specific surveys, the project measures how women in Lebanon, Morocco and Yemen see themselves as members of society, the economy and the polity. Using the information obtained from the surveys, the project seeks to build capacity of local NGOs seeking to improve women’s well‐being by providing them with tools to develop policy recommendations and skills for working on advocacy campaigns.

IFES, in conjunction with its partner, the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), kicked off the Status of Women project in Beirut, Lebanon in May 2009 with the Regional Indicator Working Group Meeting. IFES gathered experts in women’s issues from Lebanon, Morocco and Yemen to discuss the gaps in existing data in their respective countries and to assist IFES in shaping the survey questionnaires to most adequately address the needs of women’s advocates.

IFES contracted the local survey firm Yemen Polling Center (YPC) to carry out the survey. YPC is scheduled to conclude field work in Yemen in June 2010.
